The Club Managers Association of America has named Jill R. Philmon, CCM, CCE, Ballantyne Country Club, Charlotte, N.C., as President; Robert C. James, CCM, CCE, CHE, Westchester Country Club, Rye, N.Y., as Vice President; and Robert J. “Bobby” Crifasi, CCM, CCE, CPA, New Orleans Country Club as Secretary–Treasurer. CMAA also awarded the Florida Chapter as the 2015 Chapter of the Year in the large chapter category.
Cooking for a Cause
The Carolinas Chapter of the CMAA hosted its first annual “Chef of the Carolinas” event, so students could be more involved in fundraising efforts and enjoy quality club food in the process.
McConnell Golf Acquires Providence CC
The purchase of the 27-year-old private club in Charlotte, N.C. brings the Raleigh, N.C.-based ownership company’s total portfolio to 12 properties in the Carolinas and Tennessee. McConnell says it plans $4 million in improvements at Providence, including new fitness and activity areas and upgrades to the clubhouse and golf course.

Carmel CC to Renovate North Course
The older of the two golf courses at the Charlotte, N.C., property will see the introduction of bermuda grass on its fairways and greens, and the bunkers will be rebuilt. The project will also reroute five of the golf course’s holes to accommodate the expansion of the practice area.
GolfNow, Uber Begin Multi-Tiered Partnership
The partnership will begin September 25 with a weekend promotion conducted in 10 U.S. cities and Orange County, Calif., offering Uber riders discounts on golf, surprise gifts, and an opportunity to win free golf for a year.
McConnell Golf Considers Acquiring Providence CC
The Raleigh, N.C.-based owner/operator of private golf clubs in the Carolinas is “still evaluating the club at this point.” The Charlotte, N.C., club’s golf course was redesigned in 2006 and the remainder of its facilities were renovated in 2014.
Trump National Doral Miami Upgrades Golf Through Technology
The Miami property features an irrigation system connected to its IP network, LED screens and GPS on each golf cart, and about 900 Wi-Fi access points installed on the grounds. Properties like Quail Hollow Club, in Charlotte, N.C., and TPC Scottsdale install Wi-Fi specifically for use during tournament play.
