California and Florida Clubs Select New Management Firms
Hiddenbrooke GC in Vallejo, Calif., which has had previous arrangements with other management companies, will now be managed by Troon. The Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland, Fla., will now be operated by Billy Casper Golf, and an agreement has been finalized for Tiger Point GC in Breeze, Fla., to be managed by Honours Golf.
17 Beavers Killed at Roebuck GC to Preserve Endangered Fish
According to employees of the Birmingham, Ala., golf course, the beavers were rounded up “by government employees” in January because they destroy the vegetation that the endangered watercress darter lives in, and have also expanded the Roebuck Spring into the fairway of the No. 8 hole. Just five days after the beaver kill, hole No. 8 was still unplayable due to flooding.
Chattanooga (Tenn.) G&CC Tees Up Biggest Expansion in Decades
The $6 million project will include a redesign of the current pool with the addition of a zero-entry section for young children with splash pads. Also, a new adult pool with pool bar will be built. In addition, a new fitness center will go up along with an upscale outdoor and screened-in dining area. “We needed to be more family-friendly,” says General Manager Michael Murray. “We hope [the club] can be a one-stop shop.”
Vestavia CC Plans $10M Makeover
The 18-hole golf course at the Birmingham, Ala., property will see $6.5 million of changes, with an overhaul of the irrigation system, greens, sod, cart path, bunkers and water feature. The plan for the property-wide renovations was approved in June, and work on the course is expected to be complete in early 2018.
The Bluffs on Thompson Creek Plans Open House
The St. Francisville, La., property, which closed in March 2009 and was later acquired by The Bluffs Renaissance LLC in September 2015, is now open to the public and an open house is planned for April 3 to showcase improvements. Upcoming plans include renovating a jogging trail, updating the golf course, and developing a spa.
Greystone G&CC to Open New Restaurant in April
The Birmingham, Ala., property will host a ribbon-cutting and open house on April 9 for Cellar 91, its new 5,500-sq. ft. restaurant that General Manager/COO David Porter described as “the heart and soul of the club.” The facility is set to open its doors for member dining in mid-April.
Greystone G&CC to Open New Fitness Center
More than the three times the size of its previous facility, the 4,000-sq. ft. fitness center at the Birmingham, Ala., property will open September 21, featuring a nutrition area, cardio and strength equipment, and Internet and cable access.
