Mount Vernon CC Completes “Green” Renovation
The Alexandria, Va., property dredged its ponds and reconfigured the banks of one of its streams to reduce erosion and downstream silting, and to reduce flooding of fairways after heavy rains. The 18-hole, 128-acre golf course has reopened, featuring Latitude 36, a new Bermuda hybrid designed for the Middle Atlantic region.

Topgolf to Offer Free Golf Lessons for National Golf Day
In a promotion sanctioned by the World Golf Foundation, the 13 Topgolf “sports entertainment communities” around the U.S. will offer free five-minute lessons with slow-motion video swing analysis on April 15, while trying to “set a company record for most golf lessons taught in one day.”
CMAA Names 100 New Certified Club Managers
The CCM designation indicates that a club management professional has completed a rigorous course of study and training, and shows a dedication to proficiency and expertise in club management. The two classes are the final group of managers to earn their CCM under the Club Managers Association of America’s previous requirements, as new requirements became effective following the first administered CCM exam in January 2014.
Momentum Continues as Northwood Club Transitions Management
Bob Leenhouts, CCM, has retired as the Dallas club’s GM/COO, capping a 42-year career in private club management. Leenhouts has been succeeded by his Assistant Manager, John McGee. Northwood will complete renovation of its clubhouse’s lower level this fall and begin construction of a new tennis facility next year.
