Superintendents’ Children Earn Legacy Award Grants

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America announced its latest round of twenty $1,500 college scholarships for children or grandchildren of GCSAA members. The grants are funded by the Environmental Institute for Golf and supported by Syngenta.

 

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) announced that it has awarded 20 new college scholarships as part of its Legacy Awards program.

To be eligible, applicants must be a child or grandchild of a GCSAA member. The program is funded by GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG) and supported by Syngenta. Each grant is for $1,500.

The awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills. Applicants must be enrolled full time at an accredited institution of higher learning, or for high school seniors, accepted at such an institution for the next academic year.

“GCSAA strives to not only improve the careers of our members, but to make a difference in their lives,” said Rhett Evans, the GCSAA’s Chief Executive Officer. “With the support of the EIFG and Syngenta, the Legacy Awards help to ease the cost of higher education for our members’ families.”

Added Stephanie Schwenke, Turf Marketing Manger for Syngenta: “Syngenta is proud to be a part of the Legacy Awards because it has always been a way for us to give back the golf course superintendents, who give so much of themselves to the golf industry.”

• Megan Lowrie, Oklahoma State University (daughter of Brian Lowrie, Superintendent, John Conrad Golf Course, Oklahoma City, Okla.)
• Janie Oelmann, Auburn University (daughter of Jeff Oelmann, CGCS,  Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National, Opelika, Ala.)
• Madisen Prasek, University of South Dakota (daughter of Gordon Prasek, Superintendent, Jamestown (N.D.) Country Club)
• Trevor Roznowski, Ferris State University (son of Jason Roznowski, Superintendent, Red Hawk Golf Club, East Tawas, Mich.)
• Kyra Schell, Villanova University (daughter of Duane Schell, Superintendent, Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club, Mountain Top, Pa.)
• Mitchell VanHerwynen, University of Wisconsin (son of John R. Kotoski, CGCS, River Run Golf Club, Berlin, Md.)
• Laura Sowatsky, Wittenberg University (daughter of Jim VanHerwynen, CGCS, South Hills Golf and Country Club, Fond du Lac, Wis.)
