As part of a $50 million, five-year project, the property is upgrading its guest rooms and themes of its three restaurants, and recently opened a new swim complex called the Cove that features poolside dining service.
Guests at Sunriver (Ore.) Resort have been noticing some changes this summer with transformation made during a $50 million, five-year project, the Portland-based Oregonian reported.
Much of the investment went into upgrading the resort’s guest rooms and golf courses, but perhaps more noticeable to casual visitors are new themes and upgraded dining experiences in three restaurants at Sunriver Lodge, the Oregonian reported.
A new swim complex, called the Cove, also opened near the lodge for resort guests, in time for the summer season, the Oregonian reported.
The restaurants in Sunriver Lodge had long served resort guests, but the familiar Meadows and Owl’s Nest were ready for an overhaul. The dining portions of Sunriver Lodge were closed after the Christmas holidays last winter and reopened in late May with new themes.
The main restaurant was remodeled and rebranded as Carson’s American Kitchen, featuring Northwest cuisine and named for fur days explorer Kit Carson. The menu is designed by chef Travis Taylor, 2014 Iron Chef winner at Bite of Oregon, to meet expectations of the resort’s upscale guests but also to be kid-friendly with build-you-own pizza, the Oregonian reported.
Twisted River Tavern offers a new pub experience, while the Living Room is a comfortable central gathering spot with small bites, wine from kegs and microbrews, the Oregonian reported.
Outside behind the lodge, guests can enjoy views seasonally of a golf course toward the Deschutes River as they order in the Beer Garden from an upscale food truck, the Ponderosa Eatery and Kitchen, and mobile taps from local brewer Ten Barrel, the Oregonian reported.
The new pool, across the main parking lodge north from the lodge, replaced space used by tennis courts. Resort guests use room keys for access. Kids love the slide built to look like a natural rock formation, while adults enjoy poolside service from the Spotted Frog cafe by raising a cabana-side flag, the Oregonian reported.
Sunriver’s 3,300 acres have a resident population of 1,300, which swells to four times that during peak visitor seasons. The first homesite was purchased in 1968 and Sunriver Lodge opened in 1969. Sunriver Resort is managed by Destination Hotels and Resorts, the Oregonian reported.
