SubAir Systems in Graniteville, S.C., a leading producer of subsurface aeration and moisture removal systems that also supplies TurfBreeze (greens) Fans and the new MobileMist turf syringing system to golf courses and club and resort properties, recently hosted a group of summer campers from First Tee of Augusta, who toured its facilities for a demonstration of how products are engineered, produced, and operated.
The campers, ranging from rising 8th graders to 12th graders, were part of a two-week program that focused not only on the game of golf, but also introduced them to the many related careers created by the sport.
After a welcome by SubAir’s CEO, Mike Corwon, the First Tee campers heard presentations from Golf Project Manager Brian Key, Production & Engineering Manager Jeff Corwon, and Design Engineer Will Brown, to take them through a step-by-step explanation of how SubAir products are designed, produced, sold, installed, and then operated.
SubAir’s Brian Key, an agronomist and former Superintendent at Swainsboro (Ga.) Country Club, then discussed the reasons that golf courses need the products and how they are utilized to improve their turf.
“It was a great experience and opened my mind about another aspect of the golf industry,” said Jerry Bradley, a rising 10th grader at Cross Creek (Ga.) High School. Added rising 10th grader Eric Brill enthusiastically, “If I don’t make the PGA tour, I’d [still] like to be in this industry.”
