The Bowling Green, Fla. resort is re-grassing putting surfaces on its Blue course with a new ultradwarf bermudagrass developed by Golf Course Superintendent Rodney Lingle. Additionally, Streamsong is expanding its fine-dining restaurant, SottoTerra, and spa, AcquaPietra. Sporting clays, guided bass fishing and archery are being added to recreation and leisure options, as well.
Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla. begins 2020 by launching a special enhancement project to re-grass all Streamsong Blue greens with a revolutionary new ultradwarf bermudagrass, Mach 1. With this project, Streamsong will become the first golf destination in the world to showcase Mach 1 on an 18-hole layout.
The resort will manage this re-grassing project in phases, beginning in April 2020, to avoid guest disruption and offer all 54-holes of golf during the high-demand periods between October and March. Streamsong Blue greens will be replanted with Mach 1 in April with grow-in extending through September. Streamsong Red greens will follow the same process in 2021.
Mach 1 was developed by Golf Course Superintendent Rodney Lingle and is distributed by Modern Turf. It has been recognized as one of the cleanest and purest turfs in the industry with a super fine texture and smoothness that creates a high-quality putting surface. Through extensive testing, Mach 1 has been proven to provide smoother ball roll, more uniformed growth patterns in warm-weather climates and more stability and longevity. It is a genetically strong, high-end performing turfgrass that is both heat and drought tolerant, which is ideal for Streamsong’s seasonal environment.
“Since opening, our goal has been to provide a pure golf experience with firm and fast conditions that rival the very best golf destinations in the country,” said Rusty Mercer, Director of Agronomy at Streamsong Resort. “This re-grassing project is a natural progression for the maturity and environmental conditions of our sand-based courses. We have evaluated the latest technology of turfgrass in the industry and we are very impressed by the high-quality performance of Mach 1 at Streamsong. We look forward to showcasing this new turfgrass on Streamsong Blue greens later this year.”
In addition to the re-grassing project, Streamsong will be investing in other capital improvement projects in 2020 to better serve guests and manage increased demand. These projects include an expansion of the popular fine-dining restaurant, SottoTerra, to accommodate additional guest reservations and larger group seating; additional recreation and leisure options to meet the increased demand for the resort’s outdoor adventures including sporting clays, guided bass fishing and archery; expanding AcquaPietra, the spa at Streamsong, to add more treatment rooms and create a separation between common areas and private treatments; and upgrading rooms and suites in the Lodge.
“Streamsong continues to grow and innovate, and reinvesting in golf is paramount to the future of the resort,” said Ben Pratt, Vice President of Corporate Public Affairs at The Mosaic Company (owners of Streamsong Resort). “We remain committed to providing one of the most memorable and unique experiences in golf and these upcoming investments will better position Streamsong for the future and grow demand for the resort in a highly competitive market.”
