Strategizing for the Next Era of Growth

A common thread in this week’s top stories: Clubs are expanding, evolving, and thinking ahead.

By Madison Hartline, Associate Editor, Club + Resort Business | April 10, 2026

Happy Friday! A common thread in this week’s top stories: Clubs are expanding, evolving, and thinking ahead.

The top story this week focuses on the merger between Mizner Country Club and the Mizner Country Club Master Association (MHOA). Set to take effect July 1, 2026, the transition will be overseen by the current Mizner CC board with additional MHOA representation to ensure a smooth handoff. This merger marks a major step toward streamlined governance and long-term community alignment.

Next on the list, we hear from Ward Sutton, MCM, CCE, PGA Master Professional and General Manager of Kent Country Club. In this Q&A, Sutton discusses his approach to phased capital improvements, leadership development, and industry collaboration as he positions the historic club for long-term stability.

With the 2026 Masters happening this week, it makes sense that a golf-focused project made our top stories. Scottsdale Country Club—currently operating as Starfire Golf Club—prepares to introduce The Six Shooter, an innovative, 10-hole short course. Set to debut in 2026, the 10-hole, par-29 course blends innovative design, social play, and standout features like a 30,000-pound centerpiece boulder.

As clubs expand, evolve, and think ahead, so too are the leaders in the industry. Our People on the Move segment highlights 14 new hires and promotions this week, ranging from executive chefs, general managers, head golf professionals to golf course superintendents, F&B managers, and more.

Our final story this week takes us to Florida, where the 1000 North club announced it is under contract to purchase an adjacent property in Sarasota, Fla. The new concept is designed as a two-level, 13,000 square-foot private club and dining destination, offering a refined, members-only experience centered on elevated cuisine, curated wine programs, and high-touch hospitality.

We’ll continue tracking these trends as they shape the next phase of growth across the club and resort industry.
