Stowe (Vt.) Mountain Golf Club (SMGC), located along the lower reaches of Vermont’s Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak ski areas, opened its course for the 2009 golf season late last month (see “A Place for All Seasons,” C&RB, February 2009).
The new golf club is a true wilderness course encircled by 2,000 protected acres of Vermont forest land. SMGC is also the first course in the state to achieve Audubon International’s Signature Sanctuary certification, due to its environmental initiatives.
The course spans nearly 6,500 yards with a dramatic elevation gain. Additional course amenities include a 6,500 sq.-ft. practice green and chipping area, built to USGA specifications, as well a Golf Cottage that hosts a pro shop, teaching studio, locker rooms, dining area, lounge and terrace. The course is available to Stowe Mountain Club members and overnight guests of Stowe Mountain Lodge, the new hotel and spa at Stowe Mountain Resort.
