GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness will reopen the property on March 1 as St. Joseph Country Club GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness, with plans to build a fitness center to allow non-golfers to choose from social membership options.
The St. Joseph (Mo.) Country Club will open Tuesday with a new owner and a new name, the St. Joseph (Mo.) News-Press reported.
Officials from GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness, which also owns 50 facilities in the Kansas City and Topeka markets, plan to attract new members at the club by lowering membership prices across the board and adding new facilities, the News-Press reported.
The club will close February 29 as the St. Joseph Country Club and will reopen March 1 as St. Joseph Country Club GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness, the News-Press reported.
GreatLIFE representative Bryan Minnis said the first priority will be the construction of a state-of-the-art fitness center. The center will allow for non-golfers to choose a membership option that is more affordable, the News-Press reported.
According to Minnis, a “social membership” features access to the fitness facility and will cost $39 a month for an individual, or $49 a month for a family. Another membership option for non-golfers will allow for use of the fitness center and the pool, which will cost $79 a month for individuals and $99 for a family, the News-Press reported.
Memberships that include golf run from $225 to $295 a month for individuals, and $325 to $395 a month for families. Those under 30 years old can get a junior membership for $150 to $195 a month. Corporate memberships also are available, the News-Press reported.
GreatLIFE Co-owner Rick Farrant said the company’s goal is to make the club more accommodating to families, the News-Press reported.
“We’re a very family-oriented business,” Farrant said. “A great day for us is maybe dad’s playing golf, mom’s working out in the fitness center and the kids are in the pool. So, we really strive for that.”
While changes are coming to the club, Minnis said no major changes will be made to the staff. “The people here were one of the real reasons why he had such great interest in the club in the first place, because it is really well run,” he said.
Construction for the fitness center will begin then and should be done within a couple months, Minnis said.
