The private club in Ripon, Calif. is using increased equity gained through a successful refinancing of its clubhouse to renovate its 50-year-old pool complex and construct a new full-service snack bar and restrooms.
Demolition and the subsequent renovation of a 50-year-old pool complex began on March 28th at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club in Ripon, Calif.
Along with the complete renovation of the pool area, a full-service snack bar and restrooms will be constructed to service both the pool patrons as well as the golfers making the turn to the back nine. The convenience of not having to go back inside the clubhouse for food and refreshments or restroom breaks will be a major improvement and will help to keep play moving smoothly through the turn, says Steve Hupe, the club’s General Manager/COO.
In addition, the overall area of the pool decking will be increased by 30 percent, which will allow the club to host member or guest events of up to 100 people poolside.
Completion of the pool-renovation project and snack bar construction is anticipated for a June 15th grand opening.
Spring Creek Golf & Country Club is a non-profit, 18-hole, member-owned, private club in the Northern California city of Ripon. It is open to non-members for events.
The renovation of the antiquated facility, which dates back to the club’s founding in 1965, was long overdue, reports Hupe, especially after the completion of a new 55,000-sq. ft. clubhouse in early 2012 left the pool complex as the lone amenity that didn’t measure up to the expectations of the membership.
But with the successful refinancing of its clubhouse in June 2015, Spring Creek was able to utilize the increase in equity to reinvest over $500,000 in the renovation without increasing the membership’s capital commitment, Hupe reports.
“Having the opportunity to decrease the club’s overall debt service with the refinancing [and at the same time] renovate a hopelessly out-of-date pool facility and add additional amenities without increasing the financial burden to the members made this project a sound investment in the future of the club,” Hupe says. “The project passed a membership vote of approval by a wide margin and illustrated the commitment of the members to continue to upgrade and enhance their club while increasing the overall value to the Proprietary members.”
