Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, La. recently completed phase one of a multiphase clubhouse renovation project. Phase one included upgrades to the club’s fitness facility, installation of a new Trackman simulator room and the opening of a new childcare facility. Phase two of the clubhouse renovation project is expected to begin in 2024 and will include enhanced dining facilities as well as new banquet space for member-related functions.
The new Southern Trace Fitness Center expanded from 1500 sq. ft. to 2600 sq. ft. and is outfitted with all new cardio and strength-training equipment. The enhanced Fitness Center also includes a new Group Fitness Room where PiYo, yoga, and other workout programs take place.
During the clubhouse renovation, a new indoor Trackman simulator room called “The Bunker” was installed. The Bunker includes a state-of-the-art Trackman simulator with realistic, high-definition graphics of 242 golf courses around the world, while two 65-inch televisions display swing and ball speed data to help members analyze their games and improve their swings. The club’s new childcare facility, Trace Kids, is home to a variety of activities for kids ages 3 to 12, including interactive gaming consoles, televisions and more.
“Our members will now have access to a multitude of fitness options, a golf simulator and teaching facility, and an upgraded daycare facility,” said Southern Trace Country Club Board President Alexander Mijalis. “These increased and added benefits shine as another example of our commitment to provide our members with a first-class membership experience and our push to return Southern Trace Country Club to best club in the area.”
Southern Trace’s clubhouse renovation comes on the heels of a $4.2 million golf course renovation and enhancement project, completed in July of 2022. The two-year golf course project focused on irrigation and drainage system upgrades, green complex enhancements and the addition of a new short game practice area. Golf course designer and Southern Trace member Jim Lipe oversaw the course renovation.
Established in 1988, Southern Trace Country Club features an Arthur Hills-designed golf course that plays through open meadows and a dense oak forest. The 7,015-yard golf course has a proud history of hosting high-level professional and amateur tournaments, including the Web.com Tour’s Southern Open from 1990-2002, multiple state amateur championships and the AJGA David Toms Junior Invitational. In addition to an award-winning golf course, Southern Trace members also enjoy a host of club amenities, including eight tennis courts and a resort-style swimming pool complex. Arthur’s Bar and Grill overlooks the first hole, has two outdoor patios to dine al fresco and multiple televisions.
