The agreement is part of a master-plan initiative to re-energize and reprogram the Edwards, Colo. property.
The Sonnenalp Golf Club of Edwards, Colo., has reached a partnership agreement, which will begin January 1, 2015, with Dallas, Texas-based ClubCorp, the world’s largest owner-operator of private golf and country clubs, business, sports and alumni clubs, to offer current and future Sonnenalp Club members access to ClubCorp facilities.
The benefits plan allows Sonnenalp’s Full members to golf at hundreds of golf and country clubs, and also grants Full and Sports members access to business clubs, sports clubs and alumni clubs in the U.S., as well as in Mexico and China.
Located in the Vail Valley of Colorado, the Sonnenalp Golf Club is a semi-private facility that offers access to the championship 18-hole golf course. For more than 30 years, the club owned by the Faessler family has offered golf, swimming, tennis, fitness facilities, restaurant and social activities. The club is 15 minutes from the Sonnenalp Hotel and also permits resort play. Heidi Cofelice is the club’s General Manager.
The partnership with ClubCorp is part of a master plan to re-energize and reprogram the venue, incorporating education, lifestyle, fitness, well-being, golf and family events for the membership and the entire Vail Valley community.
“We realize that the club business has changed dramatically,” said Johannes Faessler, owner of The Sonnenalp Club. “Club members and guests want more family time, plus more year-round, lifestyle-oriented programming than ever before.
“We have tremendous assets at the Sonnenalp Club and our new plan allows us to both better utilize those assets and also meet the service standards today’s members look for in club membership,” Faessler added. “We see this association with ClubCorp of America, as well as our vision for the Sonnenalp Club’s future, as a way to address these elements and create the programs that are important to our members and community. So far, it has been very well-received.”
The ownership and management of Sonnenalp Club remains with the Faessler family, the five-generation resort owner and hotelier that operates luxury resorts in Vail, Colo. and Ofterschwang, Germany, in the Bavarian Alps.
“Our relationship with the Faessler family is long and dear and it is an absolute thrill to work with such an incredible hotelier and club operator,” said Eric Affeldt, Chief Executive Officer of ClubCorp and a founding partner of KSL Recreation Company, which started in Vail in 1998. “We look forward to welcoming Sonnenalp Club members to our properties and clubs.”
The ClubCorp partnership will offer access to hundreds of Clubs across the country and a number of ClubCorp’s Colorado properties including Aspen Glen in Carbondale, Colo.; Fort Collins (Colo.) Country Club, and Blackstone Country Club and Black Bear Golf Club in Parker, Colo.
