The approval would appear to clear the way for a reopening of the former Shallow Creek course, which was designed by Arnold Palmer and closed in 2007, in the spring or summer of 2022. The reopening under a new name, Valley Fields, will mark the realization of the dream of Yorktown resident and area club pro Rocco Cambareri, who died in 2017.
The site plan for reopening the former Arnold Palmer-designed Shallow Creek Par 3 Golf Course, which closed in 2007 and was then donated to the town of Yorktown, N.Y., has been approved by the Yorktown Planning Board, the Yonkers (N.Y.) Times reported.
That would appear to clear the way, the Times reported, for RC Recreation to reopen the course under a new name, Valley Fields, in the spring or summer of 2022, marking the long-awaited realization of the dream that Yorktown resident and club pro Rocco Cambareri (for whom RC Recreation is named) had before his death in 2017 (https://clubandresortbusiness.com/efforts-continue-fulfill-head-golf-pros-dream-new-yorktown-n-y-course/).
Cambareri’s career as a head golf professional in the area included years at the Maple Moor and Saxon Woods golf courses in White Plains, N.Y. and Scarsdale, N.Y.
The 12-acre property is close to wetlands and has a creek that runs through a few of the golf course’s holes, and while the town of Yorktown had originally thought of keeping it as a passive recreation park, the final determination found that keeping it for golf would be the best use, the Times reported.
Delays were also encountered relating to permitting and other issues (https://clubandresortbusiness.com/yorktown-n-y-par-3-golf-course-on-track-for-summer-opening/).
RC Recreation, a nonprofit organization, has a lease for the property through 2028. The town has the ability to extend the agreement in three-year increments until 2037.
The reopening will also unveil the renovation of a clubhouse and restaurant/bar on the property.
