The Scotch Plains, N.J. club is home to an 18-hole A.W. Tillinghast golf course, a resort-style pool complex with a 25-meter main pool, an adult pool with in-water lounge and waterfall, swim-up bar with pod seating, a children’s pool with water features, a snack bar and locker rooms. “I am excited to join the Heritage Golf Group team and work with the Shackamaxon members and community to provide an excellent private club experience for all,” says new General Manager Chris Hanns.
Heritage Golf Group announced the purchase of the Shackamaxon Country Club, a century-old private club in Scotch Plains, N.J. Shackamaxon is the ninth property to join the Heritage Golf Group portfolio of private country clubs and high-end daily fee golf courses since last year.
“Shackamaxon is an outstanding [A.W.] Tillinghast golf course with a rich tradition of family-oriented amenities—a profile that aligns with our interest to own and operate high quality private clubs in community environments,” said Mark Burnett, Heritage Golf Group CEO and President. “We look forward to creating an environment that reflects what current and prospective members want and expect from the club experience.”
Chris Hanns has been hired for the General Manager position. Hanns has held GM roles at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif., as well as other prominent clubs in Las Vegas, Houston, and Maryland.
“Being the GM of a vibrant private country club has been my passion since starting in the industry as a PGA Professional in upstate New York,” Hanns said. “I am excited to join the Heritage Golf Group team and work with the Shackamaxon members and community to provide an excellent private club experience for all.”
The Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tillinghast. The property includes a resort-style pool complex with a 25-meter main pool, an adult pool with in-water lounge and waterfall, swim-up bar with pod seating, a children’s pool with water features, a snack bar and locker rooms.
Members have several options for dining. Tilly’s Turn provides a spot for golfers to meet before or after golf. The Patio Terrace is a place to wind down with a libation and watch the sunset, with views of the 9th and 18th holes. The Living Room is highlighted by a traditional stone fireplace and provides a setting for intimate dining. The Grill Room is a gathering place for family and friends.
Golf course improvements planned in 2021 include: the practice range along with targeted tee boxes, bunkers, fairways, and golf cart paths. Ownership and club leadership is working with the members to activate a Board of Advisors and Member Committees to provide advice and counsel on operating improvements and additional strategic capital reinventions.
