Straight-line winds ripped across the course June 3, downing a tree and killing Justin Riegel, Head Golf Professional at the Huntington Valley, Pa. club. He leaves behind a wife who was due to give birth later this month. A GoFundMe account was set up to help the family.
Justin Riegel, Head Golf Professional at Philmont Country Club in Huntington Valley, Pa. was killed when straight-line winds ripped across the course shortly after 12 p.m. June 3.
“The tree came down onto the building then most of the building came down on the golf cart area where this gentleman was at,” said Bob Scholly Jr., Lower Moreland Twp. Emergency Management Coordinator.
There was a frantic rescue operation as crews tried to save Riegel, WPVI reported.
“The storm blew in and everyone was rushing in, and before we knew it a tree fell,” said Kelli Patrick, an employee of the club.
Rescue crews and heavy machinery rolled in to assist in the operation, WPVI reported. Unfortunately, officials confirmed Riegel’s death later that evening.
Riegel, 34, leaves behind a wife who was due to give birth later this month.
A GoFundMe account was set up to help the young, growing family.
“Justin was one the most caring individuals you could ever come across,” the post stated. “He was that guy who would call just to see how you’re doing and make sure everything was great in your life. Justin was so excited when he told me that Kate was pregnant, and they were having a baby. Unfortunately, after a horrific accident at work he will never have the opportunity to meet his son.
“We’re raising funds to help Kate and the kids get through these awful times and to start a college fund for the kids,” it continued. “Please consider donating as much as you can, Justin would be the first one signing up to help anyone else out.”
With 239 donors as of June 4 at noon, $31,345 of the $100,000 goal has been raised. Donate HERE.
