Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head, S.C. is opening a new pickleball center and bocce court. The club installed a USA Pickleball Association regulation surface to create the four-court pickleball facility. A new “welcome area” serving the pickleball center, will house outdoor furniture, umbrellas, comfort stations and an information board.
“With a 650% increase in participation over the past six years, pickleball is among the fastest growing sports in North America,” said Sea Pines Country Club Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Robbie Ames. “We’re excited to offer our existing and future members one of the island’s best pickleball centers to add to our growing collection of lifestyle-focused amenities.”
That collection now includes a new 60-foot long bocce court overlooking the expansive tidal marsh behind the club’s fully reimagined clubhouse. Like pickleball, bocce is a rapidly growing game at clubs and communities throughout the country. Because all players stand on the same side of the court while playing bocce, the game fosters social interaction.
“It is simple, fun, social and easily played with drink in hand; little wonder it is the world’s third most popular sport behind soccer and golf,” Ames says. “Our members relish being able to easily access the court from the clubhouse and taking in the inspiring Lowcountry setting while enjoying quality time with friends and family.”
