A group led by Dan Pohl has managed the Stillwater, Minn., golf course for the past 30 years, and the owner allowed the lease to expire in October to hire Northco Golf & Hospitality to take over. Northco created the new name and logo, purchased all new carts and equipment, and plans to make “numerous improvements” to the property over the next five years.
The former Sawmill Golf Club in Stillwater, Minn., is reopening as Stillwater Oaks Golf Course, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported.
Stillwater’s Nicholson family, which owns the golf course, had leased it to a group led by Dan Pohl for the past 30 years. The family allowed the lease to expire on October 31 and hired Northco Golf & Hospitality to manage the course for the next five years, the Business Journal reported.
The Nicholsons tried to evict Sawmill’s owners four times since 1989, the Pioneer Press reported last fall, citing court records. Pohl continues to lease the neighboring course, Logger’s Trail Golf Course, from a different property owner, the Business Journal reported.
Northco created the Stillwater Oaks name and logo, and purchased all new carts and equipment. It also has hired industry veterans to lead the course: Bill Laimer as PGA golf pro and Jerry Webb as director of grounds, the Business Journal reported.
Northco plans to make “numerous improvements” to the golf course and clubhouse over the next few years, Northco President Frank Jermusek said.
The standard greens fees at Stillwater Oaks for 2014 will be $23 Monday through Friday and $30 on weekends and holidays, the Business Journal reported.
