The sale of one of the golf courses at Southern Pines Golf Club in Calhoun, La., did not close in December as expected after last-minute discussions of the final contract resulted in Fairbanks Development backing out of the purchase. The Southern Pines group will now decide how to proceed with the property and may again offer it for sale as a golf course.
The sale of the Pine Hills Golf Course at Southern Pines Golf Club did not close in December as expected, and remains under the ownership of the Calhoun, La., club, the Monroe (La.) News-Star reported.
The Pine Hills Golf Course was officially closed on December 6 as a condition of a sale to Fairbanks Development. Kenneth Harper of Fairbanks Development said last-minute discussions about the final contract prevented the closure of the sale, the News-Star reported.
Pine Hills is currently owned by Southern Pines, which purchased it in 2008 and joined it with the Calvert Crossing golf course and residential development. Todd Perry, a partner in Southern Pines, said the declining membership dictated the group’s decision to sell the course, which was expected to happen on December 20, the News-Star reported.
The sale contract with Fairbanks included a clause that prevented the operation of any golf course on the property, the News-Star reported.
Southern Pines group will now decide how to proceed with the property and may again offer it for sale as a golf course, the News-Star reported.
“It is important for us to have something that is good for that community,” Perry said. “We don’t want just anyone getting hold of that 135 acres—it’s some of the best-looking land in the area.”
