While reducing carbon levels in the atmosphere isn’t exactly a sexy topic, it’s one that can certainly be reinforced with people of all ages through rock ’n’ roll.
And so, The Rivanna Resort & Golf Club, an environmentally progressive development in Charlottesville, Va., will host “Rock’n On the Green” on Friday, September 25. The event is being billed as “a celebration of music and art” that would benefit the Rock ‘n Renew Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes environmental awareness to youth by utilizing the arts as the communication medium.
The day’s events will include a morning golf tournament, an art exhibit and a silent auction. There will also be a “green drinks” reception and a concert with Sony recording artist and founder of Rock ‘n Renew, Jonny Dubowsky of Jonny Lives. Artist Fred Carrow will be on hand to exhibit his work and discuss future plans for the resort’s Monticello Art Center, which he will oversee.
The Rivanna Resort & Golf Club is committed to green practices and is working toward achieving Virginia Green certification. In addition to Rock’n On The Green, The Rivanna is teaming up with Rock ‘n Renew on a number of other green projects, including an ecology program at the resort that will educate Virginia students on sustainability, water and eco-system conservation and “green” jobs.
Plans are also in the works for an organic garden as well as rain gardens that guests can enjoy and participate in.
