RiverWatch Golf Club in Sparta, Tenn. has a new owner and will soon have a new name, WJLE reported. Steve Smith, owner of Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Nashville, Tenn., and Sligo Marina and Fishlipz Resort at Pates Ford Marina in Smithville, Tenn., has purchased the golf course.
The property will be renamed “Honky Tonk National Golf Club,” according to a post on the RiverWatch Golf Club Facebook page, WJLE reported.
“Due to this change in ownership,” said RiverWatch, “we will be closed for improvements until May. Starting May 1, tee times will be open to the public for 90 days. On Aug. 1 we will become a private membership club.”
Riverwatch is an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Peter Jacobsen and course architect Jim Hardy, WJLE reported.
Club + Resort Business reported in August 2018 that Smith purchased Old Hickory (Tenn.) Country Club for $2.3 million. The new owners had planned improvements that included a new upscale public restaurant created as part of a ballroom renovation.
