Childers B. Adams, grandson of the late Robert J. Adams Jr. who founded the club, purchased the Macon, Ga. property with a pair of business partners. Clubhouse renovations and equipment upgrades have already begun with a multi-year plan spanning over the next two years.
River North Country Club in Macon, Ga. is back in the hands of local and familial ownership, WGXA reported. Formerly known as Healy Point, the 50-year-old club is undergoing renovations.
Grandson to the late Robert J. Adams Jr., Childers B. Adams, acquired the property with two Middle Georgia businessmen, WGXA reported.
Adams said, “we’re hopeful the return to local, visible ownership will lead to an improved experience for our members.” The group plans to revitalize the club and bring it back to its roots, with Adams saying, “It really is a dream come true. We are excited to enhance this community asset and return it to the way it was originally envisioned.”
Adams is still in awe of the experience sharing that it’s “hard to believe I’m sitting here in the same spot my Grandfather did 50 years ago.”
Clubhouse renovations and equipment upgrades have already begun with a multi-year plan spanning over the next two years, WGXA reported. The golf course irrigation, cart path, and drainage projects are slated to begin early this year while all 18 holes will have new greens ready to play by the 2025 season.
Adams believes members, some of whom joined when his grandfather owned the club, are looking for a “place they can come where they’re greeted at the door and they know the employees, and the employees know their children.”
He envisions the club becoming a space for people to come together for weddings, luncheons, business meetings, exercise, and much more, WGXA reported. Ultimately, a place for people to know and relate to the neighbors in their community, and “make good memories with their family.”
“River North has a strong legacy, and we plan to build upon that. We want the members to be very proud of the club they belong to,” Adams said.
