The ClubCorp-owned property in Granger, Ind., entered into an agreement with the county to create bike paths, and the owner opted to install a fence. Homeowners are upset because they say they were not consulted on the matter, and that the fence is not in keeping with covenants.
A fence going up near part of the golf course at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Ind., is being perceived by some residents as an eyesore, the Mishawaka, Ind.-based WSBT News reported.
“This is not being a good neighbor at all,” said nearby resident Lisa Metros.
Knollwood is owned by ClubCorp, which entered into an agreement with the county to use some of the golf course land to expand Gumwood Road and create pedestrian bike paths. As part of that agreement, the club owners wanted the fence installed. And, the county says ClubCorp determined what type of fence and how tall it would be, WSBT reported.
Homeowners are upset because they were never consulted. They say the fence is not in keeping with covenants. Some people who go to the country club and also live in the neighborhood say they will end their memberships if the fence isn’t taken down, WSBT reported.
The Metros family said in other areas of the golf course, natural landscaping is used to create barriers. They also don’t think the fence needs to be as long as it is, WSBT reported.
ClubCorp issued a statement saying they are currently exploring options with the county to address expressed concerns, WSBT reported.
County Engineer Jessica Clark said the county is paying for the fence, as part of the agreement. She said they raised concerns with the corporation about the aesthetic issues neighbors have.
The Metros family forwarded an email that Knollwood Country Club sent to its members, saying that the state of Indiana would have to order the installation of the fence to be stopped, WSBT reported.
