One of two 18-hole courses affiliated with the Green Lake (Wis.) Conference Center, the 38-year-old course was renovated under the direction of architect Craig Haltom and Golf Course Superintendent Mike Lyons, with an emphasis on redesigning and rebuilding bunkers to championship level while also speeding up play and making the course more enjoyable for all playing levels. The property also features the nationally ranked Links course, which was built in 1930.
The Golf Courses of Lawsonia and Oliphant Golf Management (OGM) have announced the completion of an extensive renovation to the Woodlands course at the Green Lake, Wis. property, with play set to open for golfers on May 14th, The Ripon (Wis.) Commonwealth Press reported.
The Woodlands course was built in 1983 and designed by Rocky Roquemore, making Lawsonia a 36-hole golf destination in combination with its nationally ranked Links course, which was built in 1930 and designed by Bill Langford and Ted Moreau, The Press reported.
The Golf Courses of Lawsonia are affiliated with The Green Lake Conference Center, which contracted with OGM to oversee golf course operations in 2012, The Pressreported.
“The renovation to the fairway bunkering and green surrounds are dramatic and incredible,” said Lawsonia’s Head Golf Professional, Josh Carroll, PGA. “We’re truly excited to showcase the Woodlands course to our returning players and to see their reactions to all of the improvements.”
“The Woodlands is a magnificent golf course and Golf Course Superintendent Mike Lyons has brought the greens up to the finest level over the past 10 years,” added Ben Mott, President of the Green Lake Conference Center. “We are thrilled to have golf architect Craig Haltom and his team, who helped to build Sand Valley’s golf courses, redesign and rebuild the bunkers to championship level, while also speeding up play and making the course more enjoyable for all playing levels.
“This brings the Woodlands course up to the fine level already achieved by the Haltom/Oliphant team’s work on the Links course, which has been nationally recognized and universally enjoyed,” Mott added.
Haltom, who designed and supervised the Woodlands renovation, was also responsible for the redesigns of Wisconsin courses including Stevens Point (Wis.) Country Club and The Club at Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc, Wis., The Press reported, and for teaming with Andy North to co-design the new 12North short course at Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
The Green Lake/ Lawsonia property also offers on-site lodging accommodations and a full-service bar and restaurant, Langford’s Pub, that features breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the golf season, under the direction of Executive Chef Taylor Zacharias.
Those who playing the renovated Woodlands course on opening day will receive a commemorative gift, The Press reported.
