The city of Wilmington, N.C., announced the opening of its new nine-hole, public course. The former 18-hole course was purchased seven years ago and underwent a $2.7 million transformation to create the new, smaller course along with a public park, walking trail, bocce courts and other features.
After seven years, the city of Wilmington, N.C. has reopened Inland Greens Park & Golf Course, reported WWAY TV.
The once 18-hole, par-three course has been converted to a nine-hole course with extensive drainage improvements, WWAY reported.
The city transformed the remaining nine holes into a public park with a walking trail, bocce courts, and other feature. The total cost of the project, $2.7 million, was funded by the 2006 Parks Bond, City Capital Improvement Program and storm water funds, WWAY reported.
“We appreciate everybody’s patience with this project, but we really feel that we’re open now and we’re looking forward to everyone coming out,” said Marian Doherty, a Program Specialist with the Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department.
Tyler Carter, who hit the ceremonial first tee shot at the course opening with Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, said Inland Greens will be a great place to play.
“I think it’s going to be a great place to come and practice, I mean, brand new, who wouldn’t want to come up here?” Carter told WWAY.
