The three-story, 35,000-sq. ft., members-only SkyClub will be located in a floating-glass bridge that will connect two 60-story towers overlooking the Miami River. Amenities will include a 10,000-sq.-ft. garden and terrace, indoor and outdoor restaurants, a craft cocktail bar, cigar lounge, wine cellar and tasting room, media room, library, business center and 25 suites for guests of members.
Harkening back to the days of the Miami Club, the Bath Club, Regine’s and others known for their high-end exclusivity during the heyday of Miami, Fla., the developer of two planned ultra-luxury condo towers on the Miami River has said the project will include a members-only private club designed by international hotelier Adrian Zecha, the Miami Herald reported.
The 35,000-sq. ft. SkyClub will be located in a three-story, floating-glass bridge that will connect the two 60-story towers, called One River Point, at their summit, the Herald reported.
Amenities will include a 10,000-sq.-ft. garden and terrace, indoor and outdoor restaurants, a craft cocktail bar, a cigar lounge, a wine cellar and tasting room, a media room, a library, a business center and 25 suites for guests of members.
Residents at One River Point, which offers 350 units starting at $850,000, the Herald reported, will automatically become members if they choose, Outside applicants will also be accepted.
Indonesian-born Zecha founded Amanresorts International, a global high-end chain of luxury resorts, and is credited with helping to launch the boutique hotel trend, the Herald reported.
Miami used to boast a number of private clubs where the city’s elite rubbed shoulders and patted backs, but the exclusive retreats gradually fell out of style, the Herald noted, and only a handful now remain. Luxury condo towers now stand or are planned on the site of several former clubs.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Adrian on his first curated private lifestyle club in the heart of downtown Miami,” said Shahab Karmely, the developer of One River Point. “He is one of the world’s most influential tastemakers and we look to his interpretation of what a modern-day, intimate private club should look and feel today.”
Star architect Raphael Viñoly is designing the towers at One River Point, located on the Miami River’s north bank and planned for completion in 2018, the Herald reported.
As sales slow, developers in the Miami area are turning to ultra-luxury amenities as a way to lure buyers, the Herald noted. The planned Turnberry Ocean Club in Sunny Isles will have its own three-story amenity lounge, also called the Sky Club. And developer Jules Trump is planning a 45,000-sq.-ft. entertainment complex he calls the Circus Maximus at the Estates at Acqualina in Sunny Isles.
Other features of the SkyClub at One River Point will include an 85-foot waterfall, reported The Real Deal, a South Florida real estate publication.
Karmely described One River Point to The Real Deal as “ultra-luxury urban resort living.”
“This is Rome along the River Po. This is Havana in the days of grandeur. This is Shanghai. This is urban living in Miami,” he told the publication.
The members-only SkyClub will be geared to be a modern take on such other private clubs as Beijing’s Jockey Club, Hong Kong’s China Club, London’s Soho House, Aspen, Colo.’s Caribou and New York’s Core Club, the developer said.
“Nothing like this exists in Miami,” Karmely told The Real Deal. “Do I want to get my hair blown out, get my bottle of wine from my wine cellar, watch a movie with my kids, have an anniversary party — all of that is available without having to leave the building,” he said.
Zecha will be “curating” all aspects of the club’s design and service, The Real Deal reported.
