Beer-inspired recipes include Chocolate-Hazelnut Stout Gelato, Mexican Beer Gelato, and Irish Cream Gelato.
From microbreweries to home connoisseurs, craft beer is the talk of the town and a $19.6 billion dollar industry according to the Brewers Association 2014 research. There are 3,418 breweries considered “craft,” which are comprised of 1,871 microbreweries, 1,412 brewpubs and 135 regional craft breweries.
A growing trend for craft breweries is opening restaurant space to not only serve their craft specialties, but food. Staying true to their form, they offer courses that incorporate beer—beer cheese soup, beer battered fish and even desserts with beer. Frozen dessert businesses have an opportunity to become a wholesaler and create frozen desserts utilizing the beer from these breweries while forging community relations to cross promote business.
Alternatively, taking advantage of the biggest trend in the industry can happen inside of frozen dessert shops too. Chocolate Hazelnut Stout, Orange Wheat Beer and Pink Grapefruit IPA are all plausible recipes to attract the crafty crowds that crave both their desserts and beer. However, do be aware of liquor laws and volumes in food with regard to serving.
If crafty ice cream pints and gelato pans still seems a ways off, offering beers that pair well with meals and desserts is an easier transition into this growing market.
