Renovations are being completed on the clubhouse, restaurant and pro shop, improvements are being made to the course and a new fleet of golf carts with GPS devices has been ordered.
The Port Jervis (N.Y.) Country Club is getting a new owner, a new restaurant, and a new name, reports the Times Herald-Record.
But owner Andrew Koch, who recently bought the golf club with his wife, Elaine, says there’s enough of the old Port Jervis Country Club in the newly christened Lynx at River Bend Golf Club to stir the enthusiasm of the former members of the old club. Roughly 90 percent have signed up for Lynx, he says.
The new club will be semi-private and it will be a for-profit venture. The doors are scheduled to open April 1.
“There will still be advantages to being a member,” Koch said, such as reserved tee-times and discounts at the pro shop and restaurant. “But a lot of people are excited about being able to play the course for the first time.
The golf course was designed by American golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast. Renovations are being completed on the clubhouse, restaurant and pro shop, improvements are being made to the course and a new fleet of golf carts with GPS devices has been ordered.
The revamped club will add about 30 jobs to the local economy. The key staffers are already in place. Joe Stead, formerly of The Country Club at Woodloch Springs, has been named as Golf Pro.
The club will have its own restaurant, open to all, called The Grill at River Bend. It will feature American fare under the auspices of executive chef Khalid Elabdouni.
