Since 1910, the Port Jervis (N.Y.) Country Club has been open only to members and their guests. But the club is headed for some changes, club President Dick Roy told the Times Herald-Record.
The club is up for sale and in serious discussions with an interested party. Currently, the golf club is a private nonprofit that relies on membership for funding; some families have been members of the club for generations.
But the new owner will likely give nonmembers more access to the golf course—making the club semi-private—and will be a for-profit enterprise, says Roy.
The membership has decreased by about half in the past five years.
