‘Pink on the Links’ Brightens up Round 2 at Hardscrabble CC

By C&RB Staff | June 22, 2009

Day 2 of the Fort Smith Classic took on a decidedly different look. The color of the day was pink, as the tournament celebrated “Pink on the Links,” in the name of breast cancer awareness and education at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Ark.

Tournament Director Patricia Brown is a breast cancer survivor and came up with the idea for the event, which is in its 12th year in Northwest Arkansas. “After going through my battle with breast cancer, I was looking forward to giving people in the community an opportunity to learn about it,” Brown said to PGA Tour.com. “Ultimately, what we’re trying to do is save lives.”

Nationwide Tour players and officials, as well as tournament staff, volunteers and fans, dressed in various shades of pink to support the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Breast cancer survivors were honored throughout the event, filling on-course volunteer positions and walking with the pros during play.
