As part of its continued investment in sustainable practices, the Florida property will make three stations for electric and hybrid cars available in its parking lot, and has also arranged with Enterprise Rent-a-Car to make electric vehicles available to guests.
PGA National Resort & Spa, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., will mark the launch of its new Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) charging stations with a reception on the evening of October 7.
The South Florida property, which has positioned itself to be a “pioneer” in eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives, says it will be the first in the area to install the Eaton electric vehicle charging stations for electric and hybrid cars. PGA National’s parking lot will be outfitted with three charging stations, two Eaton Commercial Level II Chargers and one Eaton DC Level III Quick Charger.
The DC Quick Charging (DCQC) unit is capable of fully charging a vehicle in 40 minutes or less, while the two Level II chargers can fully charge an electric vehicle within a few hours, the resort says. Designed to increase travel radius and reduce “range anxiety,” the DCQC charging infrastructure supplies a quick connection to the grid for drivers on the go, with a fast direct charge of electricity needed to refill the battery.
The new charging stations are part of PGA National’s continued investment in sustainable practices, the property says, that has also included newly updated, energy-efficient HVAC, a guest room energy management system, water efficiency measures and waste minimization and recycling. Additionally, PGA National is in the process of obtaining golf course certification from the international GEO OnCourse program. The property offers 90 holes of championship golf on five courses, including the Champion Course that is home to the PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic and has been a past host of the Ryder Cup and PGA Championship.
Acknowledging the resort’s effective and sustainable practices, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated the PGA National Resort & Spa as a Florida Green Lodge since 2007, through its program that recognizes lodging facilities in Florida that make a commitment to conserve and protect the state’s natural resources.
“We are proud to be the first in the area to install EVSE charging stations as the world moves toward more sustainable energy consumption,” said Joel Paige, Vice President and Managing Director. “We feel strongly about taking a leadership position in environmental responsibility and setting a good example for our community.”
The property has also teamed with Enterprise Rent-A-Car to make it easy for visitors to the PGA National Resort & Spa to try out electric vehicle technology, by offering an all-electric Nissan LEAF for rental to resort guests.
“Our support of this effort promotes the adoption of alternative fueled vehicles,” said Aaron Toombs, Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s Regional Vice President in South Florida. “We know the car rental experience is often an extended test drive and that is particularly true with unfamiliar technologies like electric vehicles. This initiative will further encourage EV driving, making drivers more comfortable and confident with this new vehicle technology.”
