The golf course at Springfield (Pa.) Country Club reopened August 9 with new Bermudagrass fairways after a nearly month-long hiatus, which coincides with the opening of a 91-room hotel on the property later this month. On August 20, the Manatee Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., will re-open after it closed May 1 for an extensive renovation, which includes the installation of TifEagle Bermuda.
Two golf courses are in the process of reopening after golf course renovations.
The golf course at Springfield (Pa.) Country Club reopened August 9 with new fairway grass after a nearly month-long hiatus, making the club the northernmost in the country to convert to Bermudagrass to improve playing conditions and reduce maintenance costs, the Delaware County (Pa.) Daily Times reported.
The new playing surface coincides with the opening of a 91-room hotel on the grounds of the country club expected later this month. Renovations have also been made to the club’s restaurant and banquet facilities, the Times reported.
“We are very excited about the conversion to Bermudagrass and other course improvements which will make us one of the premier public courses in the region,” said Jim Simpson, General Manager. “We are now the most northern golf course to have Bermudagrass playing areas, fairways and tees, which helps us to stand out from our competitors.”
With the reopening came reduced fees for golfers. Monday through Thursday, golfers can play a round for $30, with a $35 fee for weekends and holidays. The reduced costs include golf cart rentals, the Times reported.
The par 70 course measures 6,018 yards and is open to the public seven days a week, the Times reported.
In Bradenton, Fla., Pope Golf Management announced that the golf course at Manatee Golf Club will re-open on August 20, the Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune reported.
The course closed on May 1 for an extensive renovation, during which TifEagle Bermuda was installed on the greens and several aesthetic improvements were also made throughout the course, the Herald-Tribune reported.
Tee times can be made from August 13 and a VIP Grand Reopening tournament will be held on Monday, August 19. In addition to the course improvements, Manatee will also be receiving a new fleet of carts in September, the Herald-Tribune reported.
