Mayor Bob Lister cut the ribbon July 2 to officially open the Lower Nine holes at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, N.H., the Portsmouth-based Seacoast Online reported.

“Renovations started in October of 2012, with the first 18 holes,” said General Manager Scott DeVito, PGA. “The Lower Nine were renovated between April and October of 2013, and are now ready with all the grass grown in.”
Architect Brad Booth helped with the course design of the $3.4 million project. Golf course superintendent E.J. Chea has been taking care of the new lower nine holes since October to have them ready for play this summer, Online reported.
The golf course is open to the public and serves about 52,000 patrons annually when all 27 holes are open. It is adjacent to Grill 28, owned by restaurateur John Tinios. The restaurant also celebrated the grand opening of its outdoor patio on Tuesday, Online reported.
“This is great,” Lister said as he teed-off his first ball at the Lower Nine. “People are really enthusiastic about the new nine holes.”
The grand opening celebration lasted throughout the day with players who paid for either nine or 18 holes receiving a complimentary T-shirt and cold drinks on the first and 10th tees. Grill 28 kicked off the new outdoor patio with live music, raffles and food and drink specials Tuesday evening, Online reported.
The facility, which has a golf shop next to the restaurant, also offers three PGA Tour Simulators, Online reported.
The first Monday of each month, golfers can play 18 holes for $27, Online reported.
