The two-year project at the Owasso, Okla., property included a 23,500-sq. ft. clubhouse with a patriotic art gallery, a main dining room, banquet hall, bar areas and saloon, wine cellar, and fitness center with locker rooms, a spa, and an elevated yoga loft.
Canvases featuring works of art portraying Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington grace the walls of the new clubhouse at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Okla., which officially opened its doors on May 19, Tulsa (Okla.) World reported.
The 23,500-sq. ft. building is the result of a two-year, $9.5 million expansion project to provide dining, socializing and entertaining opportunities. Staff broke ground on the building in October 2016 and have since been hard at work bringing the concept to life, the World reported.
More than an enlarged space, however, the complex pays homage to past presidents and patriots through its large art collection, which serves as the structure’s main attraction, said General Manager Holly Neidel.
“America the Beautiful is represented in these paintings, and so we start with the history gallery because we want to kind of set the tone of patriotism with our Revolutionary War and Civil War patriots, and that goes throughout the building,” Neidel said.
But the art exhibit is only half the appeal; the other is the numerous amenities that follow. Club members can socialize and unwind in new spaces such as a large dining room, several bar areas and a saloon, a wine cellar, private board room, fitness center and large banquet hall, the World reported.
The main dining room, which overlooks the 18th hole, features a display kitchen with a wood-fire oven and can seat around 80 people. The banquet hall, or “Founder’s Hall,” features a stage, dance floor, built-in bar and fireplace, and can seat around 300 people for special events, the World reported.
The building’s bar areas and saloon offer members a place to visit with friends and family or watch TV and play table games. The wine cellar, or “Barrel Room,” also features 120 private wine lockers for them to use. Additionally, the fitness center comes with men’s and women’s locker rooms, a spa treatment room, cardio and free-weights area and an elevated yoga loft, the World reported.
“It’s just very special to see it getting to this stage of life and to be taking this leap,” Neidel said. “Owasso’s growing, it’s helping us; Stone Canyon’s growing, the Folds is getting bigger every day, so it’s cool.”
A pool complex is also under construction and will comprise a resort-style leisure pool, activity pool, kid’s play shelf and separate lounge pool, along with a new cabana with restroom facilities and a bar with covered lounge areas, the World reported.
Patriot staff are renovating the original clubhouse into an expanded golf shop that includes a shoe and locker room attendant, men’s locker room featuring over 300 lockers and lounge spaces, and woman’s locker room with 75 lockers and lounge spaces, the World reported.
The expansion came from a 2013 club survey that asked members how the facility should evolve. Founders Paul Sisemore, Tom Russell, Sanjay Meshri, David Bond, Dan and John Rooney, and Eddy Gibbs have been the funding force behind the project, the World reported.
