The project at the Owasso, Okla., property, which is set for a summer 2018 completion, will include a 20,000-sq. ft. clubhouse with expanded dining areas, as well as entertainment and fitness facilities. Once it’s completed, a member-funded $2.5 million renovation to include a new pro shop and locker rooms will begin.
Founding members of The Patriot Golf Club drove their heels into the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Owasso, Okla., club’s newest expansion project last week, a $9.5 million clubhouse, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported.
The project, set for a summer 2018 completion, goes beyond the erection of a 20,000 sq. ft. structure. Gary Hamby, in business development with Tom Hoch Design, said he and his team have spent three years working with the Patriot on this project, learning about the club’s membership and its future needs, the World reported.
“The staff at Patriot has created an environment that is rare in the golf business right now. And that is a happy, healthy, progressive membership,” Hamby said. “Clubs do well when their membership is balanced, and they are, quite frankly, directing their own path, separate from the golf industry entirely.”
The space will hold expanded dining areas, as well as entertainment and fitness areas. Paul Sisemore, an owner and founding member of the club, said the project should make the club more attractive to residents of Stone Canyon and the surrounding community, the World reported.
“This gives us more opportunity for outdoor events, charity events and other things that are very popular at clubs,” he said. “Those things are popular at a lot of clubs, but we’ve been very successful with that here.”
Founding members Sisemore, Tom Russell, Sanjay Meshri, David Bond, Dan and John Rooney and Eddy Gibbs have been the funding force behind this project. When it’s completed, another portion of the project will begin on the grounds—a member-funded $2.5 million renovation of the existing clubhouse to include a new pro shop and locker rooms. Sisemore said members have raised about half of the costs for that renovation, the World reported.
