The Springfield, Ill., club expects construction to be complete in early 2015, with updates to the aquatic center, tennis courts, playground and snack house planned. The first phase will include the addition of a fitness center with cardio circuits, strength training and personal trainers, scheduled to being in January.
Panther Creek Country Club expects to complete a $2 million renovation and expansion in early 2015, the Springfield (Ill.) State Journal-Register reported.
Work at the Springfield, Ill., club includes renovation of the aquatic center to include a diving well and splash pad, and addition of a fitness center. Tennis courts, the playground, snack house, and the Panther Den bar also will up updated, the Journal-Register reported.
“It’s all about adding value to what we’re doing here,” said General Manager Matt Ruehling.
The project represents the first major expansion since the country club opened in 1990, Ruehling said. Members purchased the private club from Panther Creek developer John Klemm in 1993, the Journal-Register reported.
The project will be completed in phases. Work on the fitness center, the Panther Den and snack bar is scheduled to begin in January. The fitness center would include cardio circuits, strength training and personal trainers, Ruehling said.
Work on the tennis courts and playground should begin next spring, followed by aquatic center construction in late summer 2014. The goal is to complete the work in the spring of 2015 and the club will be open during construction, the Journal-Register reported.
Club members discussed the changes for several months before the recent vote to approve the work, Ruehling said.
“We found folks are joining country clubs because of family-oriented activities,” said Ruehling. “We have a solid golf course, and we want to add these offerings to tie it all together.”
A golf course architect will also be hired to create a long-term management plan for the 18-hole course, though changes would be minor and would take several years, the Journal-Register reported.
