Warrior Asset Management bought the Hickory, N.C., property, formerly known as Rivercrest Golf Club, in October 2015, after it had been closed for two years. The property is now accepting members and daily play on its updated 18-hole golf course, which now features Sunday Bermuda greens.
Complete with its namesake moonshine still next to the driving range, Ole Still Golf Club in Hickory, N.C., is back in business and accepting members and daily play, the Charlotte (N.C.) Business Journal reported.
Formerly called Rivercrest Golf Club, the course is now owned by Warrior Asset Management of Irvine, Calif. Ole Still was closed for a couple of years before Warrior bought it in October 2015, the Business Journal reported.
General Manager Andy Mayhew believes he and Warrior managers can make the course profitable. “We’re surrounding by a community—Oliver’s Landing—that loves to golf,” Mayhew said. “It’s in their back yard.”
Warrior and Ole Still employees have spent time and money putting the 18-hole course back into playing shape. A relatively new installation of Sunday Bermuda greens held up well during the heat of the 2016 summer, the Business Journal reported.
Ole Still held a ribbon cutting by the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce on November 1. Mayhew learned during that event that the course is now 20 years old, the Business Journal reported.
Weekend greens fee is $38 and designed to attract golfers from the Charlotte area, Mayhew said. “We’re competitive for the working golfer who’s on a budget,” he said.
As for the name, Ole Still is named for a still that golf course legend says was found in the basement of the clubhouse. Later it was moved to its new home adjacent to the driving range, Mayhew said. A full-service restaurant, Ole Still Café, is leased to a local family that prepares regular meals in the clubhouse, the Business Journal reported.
