Since the county spent $350,000 buying and revamping the Hartford, Ky., property, it has reported positive community feedback and increased revenue. A county executive noted that the golf course has made as much money in the past five months as the county projected it to make in its entire first year.
A revamped golf course in Hartford, Ky., is providing greener pastures for the community, the Evansville (Ind.) WFIE 14 News reported.
When the weather is nice, you can find Don Cox and other golfers teeing off. Cox is the first person to hit a hole in one at the revamped Ohio County Golf Course, News reported.
“It takes a lot of practice to be able to hit a hole in one,” Cox said. “I mean some people don’t do too much practice, but get one. It’s just kind of accident.”
Cox’s golf game isn’t the only thing moving forward. County officials say the course has been very successful since they spent $350,000 buying and fixing it up, News reported.
“The income from the golf course that has been made in the last five months has been what we projected to make for the entire first year,” said Ohio County Judge Executive David Johnston.
County officials say the course is beginning to attract golfers from outside the county, and more travelers mean more dollars being spent in the county, News reported.
“It gives recreation for our residents, and it actually provided another tourism venue in that we’ve brought people in from other counties,” Johnston said.
Cox has been playing golf at the course since the 1980s and says the course looks the best it’s ever been. Johnston said the golf course isn’t only about generating revenue, it’s about having a place for the people of Ohio County to call their own, News reported.
