As summer activities, the Wheeling, W. Va. property will be illuminating its Par-3 course after sunset on Fridays and Saturdays, and offering FootGolf every day. “Playing golf under the stars is a pretty magical experience,” said Danny Ackerman, the resort’s General Manager of Golf Operations.
Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, W. Va. has announced the addition of two new sports programs for this summer, FootGolf and Night Golf. The introduction of the programs represent the latest installment in the commitment of the property, which is managed by Billy Casper Golf, to provide creative activities for the entire family.
For Night Golf, Oglebay’s Par 3 Course will now feature illuminated tee boxes, fairways and greens this summer on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at sunset. The resort is introducing the Night Golf program to help introduce a more social approach to golf.
“Playing golf under the stars is a pretty magical experience,” says Danny Ackerman, the resort’s General Manager of Golf Operations. “As a Wheeling native, I am enthusiastic to see Oglebay provide another fun activity for our community.”
Glow-in-the-dark golf balls for Night Golf are being made available for purchase in multiple colors from the Oglebay pro shop, and special Night Golf tournament formats will be featured throughout the summer season.
Oglebay’s Bloch Memorial Golf Course at Wheeling Park is home to the newest American FootGolf League (AFGL)-certified FootGolf facility in West Virginia. As the sport’s governing body, the AFGL has certified and accredited over 500 golf facilities.
The FootGolf Grand Opening at Oglebay took place on Saturday, June 24, with a ceremonial first kick featuring players from local youth soccer organizations. During the grand opening, players under the age of 18 could play for free and on the following day, the same juniors could also participate for free after 12 p.m.
For the rest of the summer, FootGolf will be offered at the resort after 11 a.m. Monday thru Friday, anytime on Saturday, and Sunday after 12 p.m.
“FootGolf is quickly catching on as a fun activity that is inclusive of various fitness and age levels,” says Wheeling Park Commission CEO Stephen Hilliard. “Whether playing competitively or simply for fun, this will be a unique way to experience the course.”
Soccer balls to use for the FootGolf course’s holes, which range from 50 to 150 yards, are being made available for rent at Wheeling Park. Players must wear tennis or indoor-soccer shoes; cleats are prohibited on the course.
