The Germantown (Wis.) Village Board will vote on whether to buy 150 acres of the 180-acre property to create a public park, leaving the rest for a future subdivision and retail development. If purchased, the park could include sports fields, an aquatic center, and open green space.
Germantown (Wis.) officials Monday night will consider whether to buy 150 acres of the 180-acre BlackStone Creek Golf Club to create a public park, leaving the rest for a future subdivision and retail development, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported.
Frank Romano, co-owner of BlackStone Creek, said the price would be about $787,500 for the 150 acres, adding that discussions over selling the land to the village began a year ago, the Journal reported.
“We were constantly chasing people out who were trying to use it as a park,” Romano said. “We took a step back and said, this property just wants to be a park.”
The Germantown Village Board will consider the purchase. Potential uses in the park include sports fields and an aquatic center in addition to the open green space, the Journal reported.
If a sale to the village goes through, BlackStone Creek’s owners would have 30 acres left at the southeastern edge of the course that they plan to sell for redevelopment, Romano said. The land fronting Mequon Road is a likely candidate for retail development, though the bulk of it is more likely to be developed as housing, the Journal reported.
The owners of Blackstone Creek sold 60 acres on the western edge of the property in 2006 that Neumann Cos. developed into The Glen at BlackStone Creek, a planned community. Romano is in discussions with several prospective developers, including Neumann, to buy the land, which could become available if the remainder of the golf course sells, Romano said.
Matt Neumann, President of Neumann Cos., said he is exploring the opportunity, noting that The Glen at BlackStone Creek has been successful after hosting the Parade of Homes this year, the Journal reported.
