Clubs belonging to Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Bryant were taken from open garage and then posted for sale on Internet
A man who delivered Chinese food to Matt Bryant, a placekicker for the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons, was arrested on September 22 and charged with stealing the player’s bag of golf clubs, valued at more than $3,000, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Police said that on September 16, Kristian Vail, 22, of Flowery Branch, Ga., went into an open garage at Bryant’s home in the Chateau Elan development in Braselton, Ga., took the clubs and put them in his vehicle, then completed the food delivery and “went on his way.”
Investigators found the clubs on the Internet using their serial numbers, and all but three of the clubs have been recovered. When Vail was arrested on felony burglary charges, he told police that he had traded the clubs and golf bag to Michael Gibson, 22, also of Flowery Branch, for 80 Ecstasy pills. Gibson was arrested on September 21 on felony theft by receiving charges. Both men then posted $5,700 bond and were released from the Gwinnett County (Ga.) Jail.
In tracking down the clubs, police said that a jazz club owner in midtown Atlanta returned one club that he said he bought from Gibson for $120; that person will not be charged. One of Bryant’s prized clubs, however—a Scotty Cameron putter—had not yet been recovered. “Matt Bryant wasn’t too happy about that,” said a police source.
