Golf, fishing, skiing, equestrian activities, and a spa center, all in one location in Allegany County, N.Y.? That’s the goal of the Sawyers Group, an Irish-based company.
The Sawyers Group, based in Belfast, Ireland, has recently bought the former Six-S Golf Course in Belfast, N.Y. “The golf course and assets have been acquired by the Sawyers Group,” former Six-S owner Larry Short said in the Olean Times Herald. “It’s still a public golf course. It’s just an added entity that the golf course is going into.”
The golf course will be the launching pad for Waterways Resort which, according to Business First of Buffalo, could take five years to complete construction of the complex, with a final price tag ranging from $70 million to $80 million.
The company is proposing to continue to operate the two par-72, 18-hole courses at the club and build around them 260 residential units, ranging from condominiums to three-bedroom villas. Also in the mix: trails for cross-country skiing and horseback riding, a spa with an indoor pool and other amenities, and fishing spots along the Genesee River, which snakes through the property.
The Sawyers Group development team is also talking with the owners of Holiday Valley Ski Resort in Ellicottville and Swain Ski Resort about offering seasonal passes to buyers of the residential units.
