The introduction of the Club + Resort Talks podcast, a series of “unboxing” videos and unveiling the Club +Resort Business YouTube channel are just a few firsts for Associate Editor Rob Thomas.
This has been a year of firsts for me. While I’ve attended the PGA Merchandise Show and Golf Industry Show in the past, 2019 marked my first experience with the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) World Conference and Club Business Expo. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by so many brilliant General Managers and club leaders with innovative ideas to share.
I also carded my first Chef to Chef Conference this year. New Orleans was a terrific spot for a who’s who of culinary creativity, and I immediately began looking forward to the 2020 conference in Charlotte.
We’ve only just crossed the halfway mark and I’m checking off another first—my first cover feature for Club + Resort Business. I traveled to Mashpee, Mass. to visit The Club at New Seabury. This gem on Cape Cod (also my first visit to The Cape) is a community within a resort overlooking the Nantucket Sound.
I won’t give away all the details here, but suffice it to say the “new” in New Seabury is very relevant. The clubhouse has been renovated and the club’s new 95 Shore restaurant has opened to rave reviews. On the golf side, New Seabury’s Dunes Course has been renovated, and its Ocean Course will follow suit at the end of the season.
In the tone of a cheesy infomercial: But wait, there’s more!
We’ve been busy unboxing various products and sharing the videos on our Twitter account (@Club_and_Resort). They’ve been so popular that we’ve begun a YouTube channel. For those of you on the F&B side, we kicked off the channel with a Twinings Tea unboxing. Your pro shop may be interested in the one we did for Canviva’s Workout Bundle, which is a CBD package that includes a 500 mg Restore CBD Oil Tincture and a 300 mg Relieve CBD Oil Roll-On Pain Gel. Does your club stock any CBD products?
Stay with me—I’m almost done.
Last, but certainly not least, we’ve launched a podcast, “Club + Resort Talks.” Anne Stryhn, Assistant General Manager from The Country Club of Virginia (CCV), was our first guest. CCV is a huge contributor to the annual Idea Fair at the CMAA World Conference (and to our annual June Ideas Issue, as well), so it was a logical choice to have Anne share insights on how her club keeps its “idea machine” running year-round. And she was an amazing guest. You can find my talk with her under the Resources tab on our website.
As summer continues and fall quickly approaches, I’m looking forward to even more firsts, while also enjoying my day-to-day activities that have become the norm.
Rob Thomas, Associate Editor
