Disney has partnered with The Mermaid Academy to fit participants with a “tail” and provide hour-long swimming lessons for $50. The new “Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew” group experience for those ages 4 to 12 will cost $55 per child and include a treasure hunt, pontoon boat ride and Pirate feast.
Guests staying at select Disney World resort properties will have a chance to “swim like a mermaid” this year, according to Orlando, Fla.’s Fox 35 television station.
Participants enrolled in the Mermaid School will be fitted with a “tail” and taught how to splash around like the mythical sea creatures, for a new activity inspired by the popularity of Ariel, the main character in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” film.
The “Under the Sea”-inspired classes will last an hour each and cost $50, the Disney organization reported through its Disney Parks Blog.
Classes will be led by instructors from The Mermaid Academy, an Orlando-based company that offers swimming lessons to “make your mermaid dreams come true,”
Contacted by the New York Post, Joe O’Rouke, owner of The Mermaid Academy, said he was thrilled with his new partnership.
“We’re a very small company compared to Disney — we never thought this would happen,” O’Rourke told The Post. “We’re one of the lucky ones.”
The Mermaid School will begin at the Disney properties in mid-March and run until December of 2019. Destinations offering the aquatic experience will include Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.
Walt Disney World Resorts also announced through the Disney Parks Blog that it will offering a group pirate experience, “Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew,” for those ages four to 12. The activities will teach young guests “pirate ways” as they follow clues that lead to hidden treasures, and participants will get to use a pontoon boat to sail around Crescent Lake. After the treasure is found, crew members will enjoy a Pirate feast.
Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew will be available at Disney’s Beach Club Resort starting on April 28th. The experience is priced at $55 per child, plus tax.
