Craig Radzak, assistant city manager for Sanford, says construction is expected to start in Spring 2023 and finish 12 to 15 months later.
The city of Sanford, Fla. has plans to construct a new building at Mayfair Country Club, Orlando Business Journal reported.
Sanford has put out a bid process for contractors to build a $3 million clubhouse at the city-owned, 18-hole golf course. The city currently has a temporary trailer on site serving that purpose after the prior clubhouse was demolished due to age in 2021.
The project would include a 6,700-sq.-ft. building with a banquet room, kitchen, pro shop, multi-purpose room and restrooms, per the bid documents, Orlando Business Journal reported. Construction also would include patios outside the building and site work including paving, resurfacing the existing course parking lot, landscaping and infrastructure like utilities and storm sewer.
Craig Radzak, assistant city manager for Sanford, told Orlando Business Journal the construction is expected to start in Spring 2023 and finish 12 to 15 months later. He added that no other capital improvements are scheduled for the course, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Bids are due by Dec. 15.
Meanwhile, the Jupiter-based National Golf Foundation projects that the combination of on- and off-course golfers — with off-course including activities like interactive driving ranges — will top 40 million Americans in 2022. Also for the first time ever, the number of off-course golfers will surpass those on conventional courses, Orlando Business Journal reported.
“The notable continued growth in the off-course space – in part driven by a wealth of new and engaging offerings — is providing new entry points to on-course play and recent research has proven they add to, not take away from traditional, on-course golf,” Joe Beditz, president of the National Golf Foundation, wrote.
Other local cities also are investing in their golf courses. For example, the city of Winter Park — after buying Winter Pines Golf Club — made some upgrades after it took control of the course in May, including to the clubhouse.
