Susanne R. Wegrzyn, who has served as the President and CEO of the National Club Association since 2002, will retire from the organization effective September 30, 2015.
The President & CEO of the National Club Association, Susanne R. Wegrzyn, has announced her intention to retire from the organization effective September 30, 2015. Wegrzyn was appointed the Executive Vice President of the National Club Association in November 1993, and since 2002 has served as the Association’s President & CEO.
“It has been my great privilege to work in the club industry for the past 21 years and to enjoy the many friendships I have developed with club leaders throughout the country,” said Wegrzyn. “There are so many dedicated individuals in private clubs and within the governance of NCA who have made the experience truly rewarding.”
Under Wegrzyn’s direction, NCA not only strengthened its role as the primary advocate for the private club industry, but also became known as a vital source of information, launching a publications program in the late 90s that has grown to a library of more than 30 specialized publications and five ongoing periodicals, covering topics such as club governance, best practices and trend analysis. During her tenure, NCA also introduced the National Club Conference, which has become a hallmark event in the club industry for high quality education and industry networking, and developed extensive online content for its members, through its website and ongoing webinars. In recent years, she also initiated NCA’s Corporate Partner Program to foster strategic, long-term and mutually beneficial relationships with industry businesses in order to develop vital education, outreach and resources for private clubs.
“As our CEO, Sue has led efforts defending the private club industry from many legislative, judicial and regulatory threats. NCA’s constituent clubs are the ‘best of the best’ and their belief in NCA’s mission under her leadership is a tribute to her sustained efforts on our behalf,” said NCA Chairman Kirk Reese. “Furthermore, the private club industry is indebted to her commitment to excellence and achievement over the past 21 years. NCA is grateful for her dedication to helping our member organizations and to improving the quality and depth of our membership and industry services.”
Wegrzyn also serves as President & CEO of the NCA Foundation and was responsible for the development of fundraising programs over the past decade, which recently reached a milestone of $1 million in charitable support for club industry research and education.
“Sue Wegrzyn has led NCA and the NCA Foundation with an unwavering passion and commitment to the club industry,” said Jeffrey McFadden, Board Chair of the NCA Foundation. “Recognizing the Foundation’s potential, she revitalized the organization as the charitable arm of NCA. Under her leadership, the NCA Foundation has generated substantial funding to underwrite critical trends research and education. One goal of the Foundation is to support and provide top research in best practices that ensure and enhance club management and sound governance. We were fortunate under Sue’s day-to-day leadership to actually experience those best management and governance practices. The NCA Foundation Board will always be indebted for her leadership and commitment to our industry.”
In recent years, Wegrzyn also developed plans for the Foundation’s trends research that helps clubs gain perspective on how the industry might be changing and for the 2013 launch of the Board Leadership Institute, which is focusing on ways to enhance effective club governance.
“I am truly proud of all that NCA and the NCA Foundation have accomplished in the past two decades and know that the future is bright for adding even more services that will enable NCA to retain its role as a leader and advocate for our industry and help our member clubs achieve their respective missions,” said Wegrzyn.
As an industry leader, Wegrzyn has also served on the Advisory Board of Golf 20/20, a collaborative effort of allied organizations focused on the future of the golf industry. She is an active member of the University Club of Washington, D.C., where she is a past president, and serves on the Board of the University Club Foundation.
NCA has announced the selection of a search committee that will oversee a nationwide recruitment process over the course of the next year. “We look forward to Sue’s continued leadership as our President and CEO through this period to ensure NCA’s continued growth and excellence,” Reese said. “At the same time we wish to recognize her many contributions and unfaltering dedication to our industry as NCA’s CEO over the past two decades.”
