The National Club Association elected two new directors at its semi-annual board meeting this weekend, Christine R. Pooler, General Manager of Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., and Terra S.H. Waldron, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Desert Highlands Association in Scottsdale, Ariz.
“When women members who are participating in their club are willing to voice their opinions, the benefits are positive for the club and for the membership. In my experience, women have a different perspective from men,” said Pooler in a fall 2013 Club Director article.
Pooler has been the GM of Merion Golf Club since January 2007. She has worked in the club industry for 17 years and previously served the members of Wilmington (Del.) Country Club; The Country Club of Rochester (N.Y.); and Vineyards Country Club in Naples, Fla.
Waldron has more than 29 years of experience in the private club industry. Prior to her arrival at Desert Highlands in 2006, she served as GM/COO at Dataw Island (S.C.) in South Carolina; Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.; The Country Club of Charleston (S.C.); Cedar Point Club in Suffolk, Va.; and The Commonwealth Club in Richmond, Va.
Waldron has been supporting the work of NCA through her service on committees of both NCA and the NCA Foundation, while Pooler has served on the NCA Foundation board.
The two new directors join a board led by Chairman Thomas Gaston, Jr., CCM of The Pacific-Union Club in San Francisco, Calif.; and Vice Chairman Kirk O. Reese, CCM, of The Los Angeles (Calif.) Country Club. Samuel Bell, Jr. of The California Club in Los Angeles, Calif., serves as Treasurer and Philip R. Kiester of The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond, Va., is Secretary.
