The Private Club Report includes local market demographics and golf supply/demand metrics, maps plotting members’ residences, and analyses suggesting where clubs can look for prospective members. The report uses NGF’s GolfMAP software, which extracts neighborhood block-level data from the U.S. Census and NGF’s own data sources.
The National Golf Foundation (NGF) has developed the Private Club Report, providing club management and boards the ability to make better business decisions based on information about the local market and the neighborhoods in which their members live.
The information in the report that will help guide strategic thinking includes local market demographics and golf supply/demand metrics, maps plotting members’ residences, and analyses suggesting where membership directors can look for prospective members. The data is valuable for a club that wants to better understand its market, develop a high-performance member recruitment strategy, or attain reliable data for discussions with their membership or club board.
“I am very impressed with the amount of relevant data NGF includes in this nicely packaged report,” said Jeffrey Kreafle, General Manager of Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. “We already knew much about the market around Congressional, but the information provided valuable insights.”

NGF produces the report using its proprietary GolfMAP software, which generates a 15-mile radius around the club and extracts neighborhood block-level data from the U.S. Census and NGF’s golf supply and demand data sources.
The report helps GMs and owners understand the local population that is available to support the club. The report includes key demographic variables such as population, growth trends, household income, household expenditures, median age, home ownership, education level, and other pertinent data points.
The maps and the zip code analyses in the report are helpful in identifying where to market for new members. NGF geocodes each club member’s address and uploads the coordinates into two maps—one that shows all member residences on a map of household income, and another map that shows member residences over density of golfers. The maps give a clear visual representation of the neighborhoods that supply the majority of the club’s members.
In addition to the maps, NGF reviews the zip codes within the 15-mile radius and provides club management with the number of high-income households (those with the means to afford private club memberships), as well as the number of current members and high value prospects living in each zip code. Understanding the zip codes where members live and the ones with a large supply of high-income households provide a starting point for a focused marketing plan.
Club management will learn the number of golfing households in the area, the golf participation rate, rounds played potential in the market, the number of golf courses, golf course supply by course type, 10-year change in supply and more. In addition to data, the report comes with a list of all golf facilities in a 20-mile radius that shows the facility type (private, municipal, daily fee), number of holes and guest greens fee category.
Club owners and managers can email or call NGF at (561) 354-1628. The report is available to NGF members for $495.
