At the National Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) trade show held in Orlando last month, The Montague Company, Hayward, Calif., unveiled the winning kitchen design in its “Suite Dreams” Design Challenge. As advertised in C&RB last year, the competition invited foodservice designers to pair with chef/operators to submit designs for their ultimate kitchen suite and the chance to have the winning design, valued up to $200,000, built for them.
The winning design that was unveiled at NAFEM, as judged by a distinguished panel of culinary practitioners, instructors and consultants, came from the Restaurants category. Award-winning teams were also cited in five other categories, including Clubs. Frank Mirabile, Executive Chef of Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y. (see “Serious Players,” C&RB, February 2011), took top honors in the Clubs category for the design that he submitted with Michael Berard of Commercial Kitchen Consulting, LLC, in Binghamton, N.Y.
