Bob Leenhouts, CCM, has retired as the Dallas club’s GM/COO, capping a 42-year career in private club management. Leenhouts has been succeeded by his Assistant Manager, John McGee. Northwood will complete renovation of its clubhouse’s lower level this fall and begin construction of a new tennis facility next year.
Bob Leenhouts, CCM, retired in June after 42 years in management of private clubs, most recently as General Manager/Chief Operating Officer of the Northwood Club in Dallas. Leenhouts has been succeeded by John McGee, who served as his Assistant Manager for the last two years.
Prior to leading Northwood, Leenhouts was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Makena Club on Maui, Hawaii. During his career he was also the founding General Manager of Shady Canyon GC in Irvine, Calif. and served as General Manager of Paradise Valley CC (Paradise Valley, Ariz.); Bent Tree CC (Dallas); Capital City CC (Atlanta); Bardmoor G&CC (Largo, Fla.); Reston G&CC (Reston, Va.), and Woodlawn CC (Alexandria, Va.).
Over the course of his career, Leenhouts worked with a “Who’s Who” of golf course architects that included Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Keith Foster, Bobby Jones, Jr., Ted Robinson, Ted Robinson, Jr., and Dick Nugent.
Leenhouts earned the designation of Certified Club Manager (CCM) by the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) in 1980 and was inducted into the CMAA Honor Society in 1990. He also served on a number of CMAA national committees, including as Chairman of the Club Management Institute (CMI). He was also President of the CMAA’s Texas Lone Star Chapter in 1991, and served on a number of other CMAA chapter Boards throughout his career.
Leenhouts’ successor, John McGee, previously was Clubhouse Manager of Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club, Menlo Park, Calif., before joining Northwood Club three years ago. Prior to joining Sharon Heights, McGee spent 18 years with Marriott Hotels as an Executive Chef and F&B Director, working in properties throughout the U.S., Latin America and South America.
Northwood Club was founded in Dallas in 1946 and hosted the U.S. Open in 1952. The club is completing a total renovation to the lower level of its clubhouse this September that will include new locker rooms, a men’s Grill and a wine room with members’ wine lockers. In January 2014, the club will start construction of a new tennis facility that is scheduled for completion in September 2014.
